This course examines the historical relationship between Hinduism, power and politics in the colonial and postcolonial period. Themes include religion, colonial law and political economy, gurus and politics, anti-caste movements, sectarian violence, and Hindu nationalism. It emphasizes the centrality of religion in shaping political subjectivities, movements and public debates.
