Linguistic Studies - Major (Arts) - ERMAJ1850

Enrolment in the Linguistic Studies Major program is limited to students who meet at least one of the following criteria:

  1. achieved at least 60% in LIN101H5 or LIN102H5; OR
  2. achieved a minimum grade of 65% in at least two 200-level LIN/JAL/JLP courses.

NOTE: Students cannot be enrolled simultaneously in the Linguistic Studies Major and the Linguistic Studies Minor programs.

8.0 credits are required.

  • 1.0 credit: LIN101H5 and LIN102H5
  • 3.0 credits: Core requirements
  • 1.5 credits: Upper-year courses
    • 1.5 credits from any 300- or 400-level LIN/JAL/JFL/JLP courses
  • 1.5 credits: Electives
  • Language requirement: 1.0 credit in a language course. This credit must involve the same language and must be taken either concurrently with LIN101H5 and LIN102H5 or after their completion. The language must be one other than the student's first language; English language courses are excluded.
  1. Students must have a minimum of 0.5 credits at the 400-level.

  2. No more than 1.0 credits outside of LIN/JAL/JFL/JLP offerings (excluding courses fulfilling the language requirement) can be used towards program requirements.

  3. No more than 1.5 credits can be double counted towards two programs of study in Linguistics.

  4. No more than 1.0 ROP course credit may count toward the completion requirements.
