These courses teach grammar, vocabulary, and reading in ancient Greek, focusing on the form of the language employed in antiquity from about 800 BCE to 400 CE for writing a variety of texts. No prior knowledge in ancient Greek is required for GRK101H5, but prerequisites are needed for additional levels. These courses can contribute towards your Major in Classical Civilization and towards a Certificate in Ancient Languages.

Certificate in Ancient Languages

The study of Ancient Greek and Latin is a demanding and intellectually rewarding experience. The Certificate in Ancient Languages is open to students who are interested in taking courses in ancient languages. The 2.0 credit requirement will permit students to develop a strong foundation in one or two ancient languages; gain a historical understanding of their study; cultivate working relationships with faculty; explore independent research and collaboration opportunities; and obtain a transcript notation signalling their language proficiency.
