These courses teach grammar, vocabulary, and reading in Latin, focusing on the form of the language from 300 BCE to 500 CE. Beyond antiquity, Latin has been used for centuries in law, science, and religions. While LAT101H5 requires no prior knowledge of Latin, prerequisites are needed for additional levels. These courses can contribute towards your Major in Classical Civilization and towards a Certificate in Ancient Languages.
Certificate in Ancient Languages
The study of Ancient Greek and Latin is a demanding and intellectually rewarding experience. The Certificate in Ancient Languages is open to students who are interested in taking courses in ancient languages. The 2.0 credit requirement will permit students to develop a strong foundation in one or two ancient languages; gain a historical understanding of their study; cultivate working relationships with faculty; explore independent research and collaboration opportunities; and obtain a transcript notation signalling their language proficiency.
